July 2010
The fourth of July holiday reminded me to write a letter to keep everyone updated about all the news at CCC. It’s hard to believe half the year has gone by already! Things have been going very well for me and my independent practice at Creating Connections Counseling. I continue to have a full caseload of families dealing with adoption, attachment, and trauma. I anticipate having openings to add new families in the fall.
This past April, I completed level- one training for EMDR therapy. EMDR stands for ‘Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing.’ It is an evidence-based intervention for addressing traumatic experiences. I am so excited to be able to offer this incredible therapy to my clients, and I am already incorporating this technique into my practice with great success! I return for level two training in November, after which I will be certified as an EMDR practitioner. As most of you know, healing trauma requires many interventions, so it is fabulous to add this to the handbag of tools I have to help families in need.
Since the last newsletter, there have been two successful visits from the Neurological Reorganization practitioners, Ms. Emily Beard and Ms. Nina Jonio. It was a pleasure hosting these lovely ladies, and as always, wonderful to see the progress made by those families diligently working their NR program. I always learn so much from the NR practitioners when they are here, and I look forward to their return in September. In order to get the word out about Neurological Reorganization and Therapeutic Parenting for kids with attachment trauma, I am teaming up with Ms. Emily Beard to do a presentation in Des Moines in September. Please pass along the information to anyone you think may be interested!
I hope summer vacation is full of fun, sun, family, and adventure for all.
